It takes a certain confidence to strip back your designs and herald a new era of simplicity. At the same time, what if you also decide to champion original, signature and classic designs that have a timeless appeal? A bid for design immortality, maybe? That this happens for one season is self-assured. For three seasons in a row; this is a mark of maturity and poise.
London Designer Marc Hare of Mr Hare strode into Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2014 with his Tutto Nero shoe collection. All black everything in memorable shapes and names such as "Bird Black" and "Dizzy Black". My favourites were the charming "Belafonte Black" loafer, an original rakish design, and the "King Cole". Then, Spring / Summer 2015 saw the collection "Monochrome". Black and white simplicity with acres of classic appeal. A case of, can do colour, but here is simple style, distilled. For Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2015, the "Romance and Adventure" Collection blends yet more classic formal footwear with an enlarged informal collection of boots and sneakers (trainers). Colour has been reintroduced. There are also more collectors items in this collection.
The Ready to Wear Spring / Summer 2016 launch in June 2015 included strong primary colours and striking penny loafer shoes and boots. In Autumn 2015 Mr Hare London was nominated for the Emerging Menswear Designer Award at the British Fashion Council's British Fashion Awards 2015. It is all lining up.
In simple terms, it is and has been a great time to own Mr Hare shoes. It is always a good time. Now more than ever, he seems to be designing for the future, for a greater collective legacy and for keeps.
